All of our “standard” places were not open in March, especially during the week. This was our first ever visit! We’re so happy this was the case. We simply loved the small town feel. The place had several groups of golfers enjoying food and golf talk. There were 3 gentlemen at another having a very animated and serious discussion about ducks and hunting them. And that’s even before I say how delicious the food was. Layton’s has moved to the top of our list for breakfast spots in OC.

Was very excited to try Layton's as I have heard great things. We got up early to have some breakfast and well we were not impressed. My girlfriends omelette was cold and her toast was cold too. I got French toast and it was so bland, they didn't have powdered sugar on it?? And maple syrup couldn't save it either. We did both get donuts and that was honestly the saving grace. It's a shame because I love family owned places like this, but it was not a great experience.

I think we're gonna stop going. We've been there at least once a year when we go down for vacations or long weekends. Each time the food gets worse, and more expensive. The pancakes are fine. This last visit, my scrambled eggs were crusty. Not burnt, just crusty. As if they were either sitting out for a while or they're just cooked weird. They seem like real eggs, maybe they're powdered eggs? Maybe both? I don't know. My sausage wasn't burned but somehow dry inside. Maybe microwaved? There was only three of us and somehow after tip it was $80. Also, the place seems beat and was a little dirty. Just not worth it anymore. Too bad, it's really close to our condo where we can just walk.
